Hugh joined IER in October 2011, having lectured and tutored in undergraduate management and marketing at The University of Melbourne from 2006-2011, and postgraduate business at RMIT in 2011. He was also a tutor in commerce and cultural studies at Janet Clarke Hall and Trinity College from 2007-2011.
Hugh has taught in the areas of advertising and promotion, brand management, consumer behaviour, entrepreneurship, marketing channels, services marketing, strategy and cross cultural communication. At IER Hugh combines his research background and marketing knowledge to deliver strategic insights to clients in the sport, racing, entertainment and tourism industry.
Hugh studied at the University of Melbourne, completing a Bachelor of Commerce degree majoring in Accounting and Marketing with Honours in Management and Marketing, a Bachelor of Arts (Cultural Studies and Professional Writing) and a Diploma of Modern Languages (French). In 2009 Hugh received an Academic scholarship to study the MBA at RMIT's Graduate School of Business and in 2010 accepted an RMIT travel scholarship to complete half of his Masters of Commerce degree at the University of Maryland.
Hugh was a recipient of the Kinsman Scholarship in 2008, a prize awarded for his Honours research which focused on the concept of brand authenticity in the premium beer market. It was published in The Journal of Brand Management, and Hugh has had other publications in The Age, AdNews, B&T and Marketing magazine. In his spare time Hugh enjoys overseas travel, distance running, road cycling, surfing and cross country skiing
